ARTIST TRADING CARD CONTEST

MINIATURE WORKS OF ART
RAISE BIG BUCKS FOR MENTAL HEALTH!!!

You and your friends are invited to enter our first annual Artist Trading Card contest sponsored by EARMARK Purrductions Creative Studios.

Artist trading cards are miniature works of art, always 2½ x 3½" (6 x 9 cm), and are traded by all ages. So if you're a teacher, or a parent what a great way to get the kids involved!!

The cards can be about anything and made with any media, materials, or techniques, just as long as they remain 2½ x 3½" (6 x 9 cm).

It’s all up to the individual participant how they create the card.

Your ATC could make the world of difference in the lives of families and youths affected by mental illness.

We respect that Artist Trading Cards are traded and not sold, so all we ask is for is a small donation along with your contest entry.  The funds raised will be used by Parents’ Lifeline of Eastern Ontario (PLEO) http://www.pleo.on.ca/.  They’re a voluntary, non-profit self-help group assisting parents and families of children being treated for mental illness.

We also understand that some ATCers may find it difficult to donate any monetary amount.  You are still encouraged to enter this contest since your entry is a donation in its own merit!

All of the funds raised will be used for a program known as THE SOURCE. Through this program, PLEO provides recreation and socialization for 16 to 25 year olds living with mental illness.

Please visit http://www.earmark-decorative-painting-studio.com/artist-trading-card-contest.html for all of the contest details.  Or contact Cheryl at 613-832-4099 to have the contest details and form mailed to you.

Mail your ATCs to ATC CONTEST, EARMARK Studio, 3152 Stonecrest Road, RR2, Dunrobin, Ontario, Canada, K0A 1T0

All ATCs will be featured in an online Gallery where visitors will enjoy the artwork and can place their votes.  As well, the ATCs will be exhibited at the Royal Ottawa Hospital for viewing and voting in late July, 2010.

A small work of art + a small donation = you made a huge difference in a family’s life.

With gratitude,

Cheryl Poulin

WORKSHOPS ARE POSTED ONLINE!!

Oh! I'm having so much fun!

I'm still working on a few more projects, but my workshops are now posted on my website for viewing.

You can sign up anytime.

The project on the left is a Faux Stained Glass Technique.

I took this class from the Faux Meister himself, Mr. Karl-Heinz Meschbach, and he gave me permission to teach this design.

Look for project designs by Bob Pennycook and other well-known and not so-known designers!

Now to finish the last few projects!

Haven't Painted in a While?

I'm happy to say that it looks as though interest in tole and decorative painting is regaining its popularity.

Granted the days of really "cute" stuff may be passé for many of us, but art making remains people's choice hobby.

As some of you know, I dabble in many forms of art for self-expression. There is not a surface that passes before my eyes that doesn't get scrutinized for possibilities.

Lately I've been drawn to my collection of 500+ older decorative painting books. All are for sale at deeply discounted prices... but I was attracted to some of the projects from the past.

And y'know? I was charmed and excited all over again.

Many of these older designs are ageless. They're classic. So even though I'm not keeping all my older books, I did keep a few. Some of the projects did not appeal to me back then but they sure do now!

If you'd like to re-ignite your passion for painting, why not sort through your magazines and books. Pick a project and just paint! Like this lovely angel project by Linda Lock!

Paint with all your heart!!

Getting ready for Fall 2009!

I've been kind of quiet for a while. The studio has been a beehive of activity. No time to Blog!

It's now the middle of summer and I am busy preparing for decorative painting workshops as well as some really cool new mixed media classes for the fall of 2009.

I'm working on a new Halloween Design which I hope to complete this week. I'll post it on the website when it's done. And I'm doing a new Glass Painting design which I'll also feature very soon.

My latest newsletter "News from Cheryl' Ferrule" is scheduled to come out in a couple of weeks or sooner if I can get myself organized! http://www.earmark-decorative-painting-studio.com/FREE-decorative-painting-newsletter.html Have a look at my back issues!

Workshops will be offered on the 3rd and 4th Tuesday of every week as well as Saturdays and Sundays. As always, coffee and lunch is on me!

Speaking of food, as some of you know I have been fighting my weight for as long as you've known me. I have begun another Blog about my weight loss journey. If you're curious or would like some inspiration for yourself, by all means have a look.

That's it from the studio for now.

Great Turn Out!

What a terrific Open House! Despite the weather, so many of you came by for some wine and cheese and a little chat. Class registration was wonderful and I can't wait to get painting with you.

Tonight and tomorrow, I'll be working on my altered book and uploading my How-To techniques to http://www.earmark-decorative-painting-studio.com/how-to-make-altered-books.html.

I'll be announcing who won the hand-painted tray tomorrow.

If you'd like to sign up for a class, drop me a line!

Cheers!

Open House coming soon!!!!!!

It's a grey morning and raining but that doesn't get to me!

Right now the old driveway is being enlarged and additional parking spaces are being created. Now my students won't have to jockey their cars around and getting in and out will be easy.

A quick reminder that my Open House is on Friday, Sept. 5 – 2PM to 7PM and Saturday, Sept. 6 – 10AM to 5PM as well as Sunday, Sept. 7 – 1PM to 4PM

The twig tray shown above is a door prize... come to the Open House and fill out a ballot. Sip a glass of wine and nibble on some fine cheese! I can't wait to see you all.

Must go paint the last few projects!
